Community Based Employment

Through various contracts Arc Gateway clients learn job skills and earn a paycheck while providing valuable services throughout our community. For information on contracted services at your place of business, please contact

Armstrong World Industries

Participants cut, label and package each sample of Armstrong’s commercial and residential ceiling tiles before they are wrapped and shipped nationwide. Samples are sent to architectural firms, interior designers and suppliers all over the world.

DOT I-10 Welcome Station

Our crews perform jobs such as grounds and janitorial maintenance work at the Welcome Station. Workers are staffed at the rest area 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year—including holidays. Crews also take care of the janitorial services for the I-10 and I-90 weigh stations.

Meet our Community Based Employment Manager

Carol Hicks, 850-438-5022,

Manager, Pollak Industries and Community-Based Employment Carol Hicks was born and raised in southern California (the mountains and small towns… not Los Angeles!). She earned her college degree at University of California at Santa Barbara and came to Florida in 1979 while traveling with her cousin. Like so many others, they both got “sand in our shoes” and decided to stay. Carol found a job with Arc Gateway in 1981 at Pollak Training Center as a behavior assistant. She transferred to Pollak Industries in 1982 as a skills trainer and moved up to vocational evaluator and then as the developmental training program coordinator until 1990, when she left that program to manage the agency’s Community-Based Employment. Carol now manages both Community-Based Employment and Pollak Industries.
